What Actually Happens When a Mobile Mechanic Comes to You

April 12, 2026

A lot of people have never had a mechanic come to them before. They’re used to dropping a bike off at a shop, leaving it for a week, hoping the estimate holds. Mobile service is different in ways that aren’t obvious until you’ve experienced it.

Here’s what a visit from Presidio Bikes actually looks like.

You don’t go anywhere

The biggest thing: you stay home (or stay at work, or stay wherever you are). We come to your address, set up, and do the work there. No loading a bike into a car, no riding it somewhere uncomfortable, no explaining the problem to a stranger at a counter and hoping they remember what you said.

You can watch, ask questions, or ignore us entirely and go back to whatever you were doing.

We assess before we touch anything

The first thing that happens is a look at the bike. If you described a specific issue when you booked, we go there first — but we also do a quick walkthrough of the whole bike. Chain wear, brake pads, tire condition, cable tension, headset. Sometimes the thing you called about is a symptom of something else.

We tell you what we find before we start work. You decide what gets done. No surprises on the invoice.

The work happens right in front of you

Everything gets done on-site. Chain replacement, cable replacement, brake adjustment, drivetrain cleaning — it all happens where you can see it. If something comes up mid-repair (a cracked cable housing, a worn cassette), we show you rather than calling you from a back room.

Most common repairs take 30–60 minutes. A full tune-up runs about 90 minutes.

What we carry

We bring tools and common parts: tubes, cables, cable housing, brake pads, chain lube, chains. For less common parts (specific cassettes, unusual brake pads, specialty cables), we’ll either source them and come back or give you a recommendation.

After the repair

We test everything before we pack up. Brakes, shifting, chain tension, tire pressure. You ride it around the block if you want. We don’t leave until it’s right.

We cover the Richmond, Presidio, Presidio Heights, Pacific Heights, NoPa, and surrounding SF neighborhoods.
